The Irish Christmas coincides with the weekend-long events at the beach including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean City. The proceeds from this event, will be used to help fight child abuse, neglect and suffering in our community. Last year, Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services served over 1,500 families in the community by working with families who have intensive mental health needs through Enhanced Families Now; serving at risk adolescent girls who are experiencing difficulty or conflict in their lives through the SAGES program; helping impoverished families find needed financial support and resources through Family Connections; providing comprehensive counseling services; and advocating for neglected and abused children through Lower Shore CASA. The Volleyball Challenge is celebrating its 29th year and is designed as a “healthy competition,” which benefits children and adults with disabilities in Delaware and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Crisis House located at 110 N. Raildroad Ave. Georgetown, DE. The Crisis House is a 30 day emergency homeless shelter need of twin size metal framed beds, we do not need the mattresses though. we need 14 single beds and 2 bunk beds. We are asking that if there is anyway you could let the public know about this need we would be extremely greatful. The Program Director is Michele Stewart and the phone number is #302-856-2246. Like all shelters we are always in need of food donations as well, but at this time we are in most need of these beds.

Easter Seals/Dance classes:
A unique form of dance class was designed for people who use wheelchairs to learn how to social dance with a standing partner, but would benefit therapists, dance teachers, adaptive sports professionals or anyone interested in working with wheelchair users. It is offered to anyone with or without a disability is available twice a year at the University of Delaware and can be taken for course credit. Students who do not use a wheelchair have the chance to experience what it is like to dance using a wheelchair.

The SPCA of Georgetown:
The SPCA of Georgetown, Delaware has teamed with Rita’s Italian Ice in the Midway Galleria to collect pet food donations during the entire month of September. The shelter is in need of canned cat food, canned dog food, kitten and puppy chow, and bagged cat food. In thanks for your support, Rita’s will provide 10 coupons for each donation.Adult dog food is not needed at this time, and the shelter asks that all dog food donated is made by VeRUS, a natural holistic pet food that helps regulate the dog’s digestive systems. Did you know that 20 – 30% of children will find learning to read the most difficult task they have ever encountered? You can help a struggling reader. Reading ASSIST® Institute trains volunteers in a specific, multisensory, systematic, research-based reading intervention program. After completion of training, volunteers are placed in partner elementary schools. Volunteers work in teams and tutor students on-on-one or in small groups.No prior teaching experience is necessary! If you have a kind heart, love children, are willing to take training and complete a Criminal Background and Child Abuse Registry Check this may be the volunteer opportunity for you. After training, the volunteer commitment is to tutor one half day per week during the school year. The next volunteer training class begins in Milford on Thursday, September 17and runs every Thursday through November 12 from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm.
